The Atlantic built the thing nobody in the AI shops wanted built. Researcher Alex Reisner compiled four of the giant datasets circulating inside the AI-development community — roughly 21.2 MILLION tracks, three of the four scraped straight off Spotify and YouTube — and made them searchable. Free. No account. Type in a song title, an artist name, or an ISRC, and find out whether your record is sitting inside a training corpus. Every independent musician who suspected and couldn't prove it now has a search box. RA picked it up and the whole club-music press followed.

Being in the dataset isn't proof of infringement on its own — but it turns a vibe into evidence, and it lands while the copyright cases against Suno, Udio and Google's Lyria 3 are live. Practical: if you make music, go search your own catalogue, because the burden just shifted from 'prove they took it' to 'explain why it's in here.' Amsterdam. TILLATEC is closing — final event in November, no reason given. It opened April 2024 in the room that used to be De School, which is the kind of inheritance that would flatten most venues, and it went big anyway: workplace, cafe, restaurant, cocktail bar, community centre, 900-capacity across two rooms. Two years and change. The founders' line was the only part that wasn't corporate: 'This is not just a goodbye to a building, it's a love letter to the people who made it mean something.'

Bandcamp's scene report from April Clare Welsh maps the thing that's been audible for months and unnamed until now: baile funk and UK garage braiding together in Brazil. The anchor is a debut compilation from São Paulo crew 2 STEP MAFIA BRASIL, six contemporary Brazilian artists building on 2-step and UKG bones. Not a remix novelty — a scene with a crew, a compilation and a shared rhythmic argument.

The most reliable pattern in dance music is that the interesting mutation happens where a British rhythm meets a diaspora that doesn't owe it anything. Baile funk's swing against 2-step's shuffle is a genuinely new pocket. Track 2 STEP MAFIA BRASIL and the artists on that compilation — this is 12-18 months from showing up in European sets, which is exactly the window worth having.

Yesterday's Bandcamp Album of the Day: 'Un Jazz,' the second record from Nu Jazz — a six-piece collective out of Queens pulling members from Deli Girls, WRENS and adjacent avant-garde projects. The review calls it 'protest music at its most determinedly primal' and signs off calling the whole thing 'Cronenbergian body-horror-as-music-festival.' It runs from a chaotic opener called 'Return of the Rant' to a sleek synthpop turn. Collaborative improvisation with actual teeth.

The New York underground-experimental node is producing again, and it's producing ANGRY, which hasn't reliably been true for a while. Names to hold: Nu Jazz, and the Deli Girls orbit it draws from. Useful reference when a brief wants confrontational rather than atmospheric — this is the current sound of that.

The archive is suddenly the thing everyone is handling.
