THE BACK CATALOGUE WON THE WEEKEND

THE BACK CATALOGUE WON THE WEEKEND — at the box office, that is a number, not a metaphor. In cinemas, Avengers: Endgame, a film that first opened 2,712 days ago, topped the domestic box office for the weekend of 25 September with $26.0 million, ahead of every other film on the chart: Resident Evil at $23.3 million, Heart of the Beast at $20.0 million, Primetime at $19.2 million, Forgotten Island at $12.8 million. In music, the MTV Video Music Awards on 27 September gave Artist of the Year to Madonna, whose "Confessions II – The Film" also took Best Dance, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography and Best Long Form Video, and handed the Video Vanguard Award to Nirvana. And in Milan the same evening, the house of Giorgio Armani closed the season with the first collection by his niece, Silvana Armani. Only the first of those is a measured result. The other two are rooms, reported by others, and reading all three as one pattern is this desk's call, not a finding: an awards night is not a sales chart, and a runway is not a contest anyone wins.

READ THE BOX OFFICE FIRST, BECAUSE IT IS THE COLDEST NUMBER. This was not a quiet weekend that an old film filled by default. Four other titles took more than $12 million each, and the re-release still took the top of the chart. The figures are studio-reported and may be estimates, and the chart does not say why the film came back or on what terms — but it does say the thing that matters to anyone who owns a catalogue: an old title, given a date and a push, can beat current releases head to head. A re-release is not a clearance sale. It is a launch.

THE AWARDS SAID THE SAME THING IN A DIFFERENT CURRENCY. Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for "The Fate of Ophelia", and Sienna Spiro won Best New Artist, so the new names were not shut out. But five of the awards named went to a catalogue artist's long-form film, and the lifetime award went to Nirvana. Awards are not sales, and nobody should read them as a streaming chart. They are a reading of where an industry's attention sits, and on 27 September it sat with artists who had a past to build on and a new format to put it in.

THEN LOOK AT HOW ARMANI HANDLED ITS PAST, BECAUSE THAT IS THE HARDEST VERSION OF THE PROBLEM. Silvana Armani's first collection at the helm kept the house's codes — fluid fabrics in wide-legged trousers and slinky tops, silvery sequinned jackets tucked into trousers, oversized shirts, metallic tuxedo jackets, sheer dresses to the floor — and removed two things: the smiles Giorgio insisted his models wear, and the hats he favoured. The report called it "unmistakably Armani, yet distinctly updated." That is a precise piece of succession. The codes were the product; the smiles and the hats were the man. She kept one and let the other go, and she did it in public, on the season's closing night.

IT CONNECTS TO WHAT THE REST OF MILAN DID. Dolce & Gabbana staged its Sicilian codes as a trousseau passed from grandmother to granddaughter to reach younger customers; Bottega Veneta doubled the size of the tote that carries its woven leather. Every one of those houses treated its past as a working asset rather than a museum — something to hand on, restyle or make bigger.

NOW THE COST OF ALL THIS NOSTALGIA. Britain's Night Time Industries Association, with NIQ and CGA, reported that the number of late-night venues rose 0.4% between March and June 2026 — and that 28.7% of the country's late-night economy has disappeared since March 2020, about twelve closures a month. Nightclubs are down 36.1%. That is the trade body's own monitor, published as it lobbies the October Budget for help with tax and the cost of doing business, and it should be read as both data and argument. But the direction is not in doubt. The rooms where new artists are found are closing faster than they open, while the catalogue wins the headlines. A culture that only re-releases is running down its future stock. In Paris the same month, the Techno Parade came back as a march against a law criminalising the organisation of free parties — a second reminder that the rooms, legal or not, are where the next catalogue is made.

THE SO-WHAT, FOR THE BUDGET HOLDER. Three moves. First, if you own a catalogue — films, songs, designs, a founder's archive — treat a re-release as a launch: a date, a campaign and a reason to go now, because an old title just beat four current ones. Second, if your brand was built around one person, write down which parts are the product and which are the person, before an heir has to choose on a runway. Third, put a line in the budget for the rooms: the club nights and small venues where the next back catalogue gets made. Renting nostalgia pays someone else's past; funding the room buys a stake in what comes next.

What it means

A seven-year-old film topped the box office, Madonna won Artist of the Year for a long-form film, and Armani's heir kept the codes and dropped the founder's rituals — while Britain has lost 28.7% of its late-night economy since 2020. Launch the catalogue, plan the succession, and fund the rooms.

THE HEIR KEPT THE CLOTHES AND DROPPED THE RITUALS

BUBBLING·SOURCES: JOURNALISM·design·DAY 1 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

SILVANA ARMANI — NIECE OF THE LATE GIORGIO ARMANI — SHOWED HER FIRST COLLECTION AT THE HELM OF GIORGIO ARMANI IN MILAN ON 27 SEPTEMBER, AND IT CLOSED THE CITY'S SEASON. Fluid fabrics cut into wide-legged trousers and slinky tops. Silvery sequinned jackets tucked into trousers. Oversized shirts, metallic tuxedo jackets, sheer dresses that grazed the floor.

AS REPORTED1 para

AND SHE CHANGED THE ONE THING NOBODY EXPECTED. The smiles Giorgio insisted his models wear were gone. So were the hats he favoured. The report's verdict: "unmistakably Armani, yet distinctly updated" — "a more relaxed take on familiar codes."

THE READ1 para

A founder-led house has just shown how to survive its founder: keep the codes the customer pays for, drop the founder's personal rituals. For any founder or CMO at a brand built around one person: write down, now, which parts of the brand are the product and which are the person — because the heir will have to choose, in public.

MADONNA WON ARTIST OF THE YEAR AND NIRVANA GOT THE LIFETIME AWARD

CRESTING·SOURCES: JOURNALISM·music·DAY 1 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

THE 2026 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, HOSTED BY SNOOP DOGG AT THE PEACOCK THEATER IN LOS ANGELES ON 27 SEPTEMBER, WENT TO THE CATALOGUE. Madonna won Artist of the Year, and "Confessions II – The Film" took Best Dance, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography and Best Long Form Video. Nirvana received the Video Vanguard Award, the lifetime honour.

AS REPORTED1 para

THE NEW NAMES WERE THERE TOO. Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for "The Fate of Ophelia"; Sienna Spiro won Best New Artist. But five of the awards named went to one catalogue artist's long-form film.

THE READ1 para

The top prize for the year's artist went to a catalogue act with a long-form film, not a single. For a CMO buying music: the legacy artist with a new format is not the safe option, it is the winning one — and long-form is where the awards went, so budget for the film, not only the clip.

What this does not show

One broadcaster's winners list, read at source. The awards are industry and fan honours, not sales or streaming measures. The count of five is the awards this list names for the film and the artist; it is not a claim that nobody won more. A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD FILM TOPPED THE BOX OFFICE

BUBBLING·SOURCES: COMPILATION·film·DAY 1 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

AVENGERS: ENDGAME TOPPED THE DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE FOR THE WEEKEND OF 25 SEPTEMBER WITH $26.0 MILLION — 2,712 DAYS AFTER IT FIRST OPENED. It finished ahead of every other film on the chart: Resident Evil at $23.3 million, Heart of the Beast at $20.0 million, Primetime at $19.2 million, Forgotten Island at $12.8 million.

AS REPORTED1 para

THE TRACKER'S RUNNING TOTAL FOR THE FILM NOW STANDS AT $884.4 MILLION. The weekend was busy, not empty — four other titles took more than $12 million each — and the catalogue still won it.

THE READ1 para

A re-release beat four other films that each took more than $12 million. For any founder or CMO sitting on a back catalogue: a re-release is a launch, not a clearance — give it a date, a campaign and a reason to go now, and it can take the top of the chart.

What this does not show

A box-office tracker's compiled chart, read at source; the figures are studio-reported and may be weekend estimates rather than final actuals. The chart does not say why the film was re-released or on what terms. 'Seven years' is derived from the chart's own 2,712 days in release.

BRITAIN'S NIGHTLIFE GREW FOR ONE QUARTER — AFTER LOSING 28.7% SINCE 2020

BUBBLING·SOURCES: PRIMARY·music·DAY 1 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

THE NUMBER OF LATE-NIGHT VENUES IN BRITAIN ROSE 0.4% BETWEEN MARCH AND JUNE 2026. That is the good news in the Night Time Economy Market Monitor, from the Night Time Industries Association and NIQ, powered by CGA.

AS REPORTED2 para

THE REST OF THE REPORT IS THE STORY. 28.7% of Britain's late-night economy has disappeared since March 2020 — an average of twelve closures a month. Venue numbers are still down 3.1% on a year ago. Nightclubs have been hit hardest: down 36.1% since the pandemic, roughly six a month.

THE ASK IS ADDRESSED TO THE OCTOBER BUDGET: action on tax and the cost of doing business, and investment in transport, safety and late-night infrastructure.

THE READ1 para

The rooms where music scenes start are becoming scarce, and one good quarter does not change that. For a brand that works in music: paying for a night keeps a room open, which is worth more to a scene than a logo on a festival — and the room remembers who kept it open.

BOTTEGA VENETA DOUBLED THE TOTE

BUBBLING·SOURCES: JOURNALISM·design·DAY 2 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

LOUISE TROTTER SHOWED BOTTEGA VENETA'S SPRING-SUMMER 2027 COLLECTION IN MILAN ON 26 SEPTEMBER, A YEAR AFTER HER DEBUT SHOW FOR THE HOUSE — AND SHE DOUBLED THE SIZE OF THE LEATHER AND RAFFIA TOTE BAGS. That is the line the agency led with, and it is the one that matters to anyone who sells things.

AS REPORTED2 para

THE COLOUR CAME UP WITH THE BAGS. Suits and dresses in yellow, red, purple and floral prints, structured but light. The woven leather that is the house's speciality ran through the menswear on a trench coat and through the womenswear on tall boots.

THE FRONT ROW KNEW WHAT IT WAS LOOKING AT. Solange and Tyler, the Creator sat not far from the house's ambassadors, Julianne Moore and Jacob Elordi.

THE READ1 para

When a leather-goods house makes its tote bigger, more of the thing only that house makes is on show — here, the woven leather. For a founder or CMO with a signature product: test the oversized version before you test a new one, because a larger object makes a known mark easier to spot across a room.

DOLCE & GABBANA HANDED THE HOUSE DOWN TO THE GRANDDAUGHTER

BUBBLING·SOURCES: JOURNALISM·design·DAY 2 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

DOLCE & GABBANA SHOWED ITS WOMEN'S SPRING-SUMMER 2027 COLLECTION IN MILAN ON 26 SEPTEMBER AND TREATED ITS OWN SICILIAN CODES AS "A TROUSSEAU PASSED FROM GRANDMOTHER TO GRANDDAUGHTER." Nubby tweed suits trimmed with leopard. Bloomers and bra tops cut from checked tablecloth print, over sheer stockings. Lace slips hung with fringe and beads. Crocheted doilies turned into demure skirts and dresses.

AS REPORTED2 para

THE WIRE SAID IT PLAINLY: DOMENICO DOLCE AND STEFANO GABBANA "COURTED YOUNGER CUSTOMERS WITH THE GENERATIONAL EXCHANGE" — glammed-up denim with gardening boots — while keeping the black dresses, lingerie looks and animal prints the house is known for. A trailing animal-print hooded cape, trimmed with faux fur, went over baggy jeans.

AND THE CROWD WAS OUTSIDE. Fans chanted for the celebrities as guests left, and the report singles out the wait for Jennifer Lopez, who has a decades-old relationship with the house.

THE READ1 para

A heritage house has found a way to chase a younger customer without disowning its older one: present the archive as an inheritance, and restyle it with the young buyer's staples. For a CMO with a long back catalogue: stop choosing between loyalists and newcomers, and build the campaign around the handover itself — the old signature worn the new way.

PARIS'S TECHNO PARADE CAME BACK AS A MARCH AGAINST A LAW

CRESTING·SOURCES: JOURNALISM·music·DAY 3 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

THE TECHNO PARADE RETURNED TO PARIS ON 19 SEPTEMBER AFTER TWO YEARS AWAY, AND IT CAME BACK AS A PROTEST. The organisers put the crowd at 350,000 on the route from Bastille to Nation, and the floats turned the sound up against a single target: the law known as "loi Ripost".

AS REPORTED2 para

READ THE LAW. Enacted this summer, it criminalises organising a free party — an unregistered, self-run rave — with penalties of up to two years in prison and a €30,000 fine for organisers, and up to six months and €7,500 for those who attend. The parade's slogan: "Debout contre la loi Ripost" — stand up against the Ripost law.

THE SCENE'S ESTABLISHMENT WAS ON THE FLOATS. Tommy Vaudecrane, president of the electronic-music association Technopol, called it "a law disconnected from reality." Jack Lang, the former culture minister, called it "rigid and authoritarian."

THE READ1 para

France has just raised the legal price of unlicensed nightlife sharply, and the biggest free street party in the country answered with a march. For operators, licensed venues and events stand to gain the audience that free parties lose. For sponsors, the lesson is sharper: a brand on a float at a street party can find itself in a protest photograph, so know what the culture you fund is fighting about before you sign.

The spatial read

Bastille to Nation is the classic route of Paris's political marches. Running a techno parade down it turns a dance into a demonstration by geography alone — the street was already coded for protest before a single float arrived.

Runs only where the place is real, dated and sourced — spatial intelligence, not spatial atmosphere.

COACH'S CAMPAIGN AGAINST SCREEN TIME IS RUNNING ON SPOTIFY

BUBBLING·SOURCES: PRIMARY·platforms·DAY 4 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

ON 16 SEPTEMBER COACH RELEASED "LIVE YOUR STORY", A CAMPAIGN BUILT ON ONE FINDING: GEN Z, IN THE COMPANY'S OWN "IN-DEPTH CONVERSATIONS", SAID IT WANTS "TO SPEND LESS TIME ON SCREENS AND MORE TIME CONNECTING IN THE REAL WORLD." The creative is a set of short films in which Elle Fanning drives a bus to a music festival and picks up PinkPantheress, SOYEON, Lilas and Shan Yichun along the way.

AS REPORTED2 para

NOW LOOK AT THE MEDIA PLAN. The core pillar is what the release calls a "first-of-its-kind global cultural partnership with Spotify": a bespoke hub with listening personas and playlists. The message is less screen; the distribution is a screen.

THE OFFLINE PARTS ARE THE REAL PRODUCT. Five special-edition Tabby bags, one per star. A collection of bag charms shaped like concert tickets — a souvenir of a live show, sold as an accessory. And the Tabby Tour, travelling through the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and South Korea, with Spotify in Korea and QQ Music in China, where it opens in Chengdu on 6 November. The company's CMO, Joon Silverstein: "Music is uniquely powerful in creating space for real connection."

THE READ1 para

Every brand can now say 'less screen'; the test is what you sell off the screen. The move for a CMO: if the campaign promises real-world connection, put the budget and the measurement on the physical layer — the tour, the object, the event — and treat the films and the playlist as distribution, not as the product.

GAP DIDN'T SPONSOR A BOY BAND — IT SIGNED ONE TO A PRODUCTION DEAL

BUBBLING·SOURCES: PRIMARY·creator economy·DAY 5 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

ON 22 SEPTEMBER GAP INC. ANNOUNCED THE FIRST DEAL ON ITS NEW FASHIONTAINMENT PLATFORM — A MULTI-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH JYT, A FIVE-MEMBER BOY BAND. The band is on Wexler Records and Republic Records, created by the Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer Freddy Wexler, and the company's own figures give it more than 450 million views in the 90 days before its 22 September announcement and over two million followers.

AS REPORTED2 para

READ THE COMPONENTS, NOT THE HEADLINE. A multi-episode docuseries CO-PRODUCED by Gap. A national mall tour from October with live performances and in-store activations at Gap locations. A capsule collection co-designed by all five members, in stores and online this autumn. Social content across music discovery platforms.

THAT IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT, IT IS A SLATE. Gap describes Fashiontainment as a platform to create content, licensing, partnerships and experiences with its brands. Its chief entertainment officer, Pam Kaufman, put the ambition plainly: the platform puts "our brands at the center of the stories and cultural moments people care about."

THE READ1 para

A mass retailer now has a chief entertainment officer and a co-production credit. The move for a CMO: price the next talent deal as a slate you part-own — docuseries, tour, product — on a multi-year term, rather than a campaign you rent — and negotiate who owns the rights and the audience data before anything else, because an announcement like this one never says.

CARTIER PUT ITS NAME ON VERSAILLES SHOWING A HOLLYWOOD FILM ABOUT ITSELF

BUBBLING·SOURCES: PRIMARY·film·DAY 5 ON THE BOARD·NO CLAIM FILED

FROM 22 SEPTEMBER TO 24 JANUARY 2027 THE PALACE OF VERSAILLES IS SHOWING AN EXHIBITION ABOUT SOFIA COPPOLA'S MARIE ANTOINETTE — IN THE PETIT TRIANON, THE QUEEN'S OWN HOUSE ON THE ESTATE, WHERE THE FILM WAS SHOT. It marks the film's twentieth anniversary: working documents, the director's mood boards, costumes and accessories, set elements, rooms reconstructed from the production. Cartier supported it.

AS REPORTED2 para

THE PALACE IS NOT EMBARRASSED ABOUT ANY OF THIS. It was conceived with Coppola, who says "Versailles was much more than a location – it became part of the film's language and atmosphere, a character in the film." The museum director, Laurent Salomé, gives the film "a unique place in the Château's contemporary history."

FOLLOW THE BRAND. A luxury house has attached itself not to the palace and not to the film, but to the moment the palace admits the film into its own story — heritage, cinema and taste in one room, with its name on the door.

THE READ1 para

The sponsorship worth having is the one at the seam where an institution adopts a piece of popular culture — it borrows the authority of both. For a CMO: look for heritage institutions staging their own pop-culture afterlife and fund that, not the permanent collection, where your name is one of hundreds.

The spatial read

The show sits in the Petit Trianon, the most private building on the estate, rather than in a gallery. Putting a film's props in the rooms the film borrowed makes the visitor compare the reconstruction with the original across one doorway — and that doorway is what the sponsor bought.

This is a fact about this publication, not about culture. These are stories the board carried at least 3 times and has not mentioned for 10 days or more. That happens when a story ends, when it moves somewhere this desk is not reading, and when attention simply drifted — and from here those look identical. Thresholds & what binds them

Signals per issue
12
Twelve stories an issue. Known limit: this desk picks the twelve, and the count can be padded by splitting one story into two — which has happened. Whatever is cut is named in the coverage note of the issue that cut it, so the cap can never imply that twelve was all there was.
Days unchanged before reclassification
5
A story unchanged for five days is reclassified rather than carried on merit it no longer has. Known limit: for the first nine days this rule was cited as an operating default it was performed by hand and had never once fired, because nothing computed it. It is computed now.
Authenticity score, basis
editorial judgement, 0-100, not a measurement
Scores run 0-100 and are editorial judgement, not measurement. Known limit: the scale has never been calibrated against outcomes. Signals are routinely moved a single point for having a quiet news day, and there is no test anywhere establishing that one point is the right amount.
How often sources are read (hours)
4
Sources are READ every four hours, independently of publication, and the figure is taken from the scheduler that does the reading rather than typed here. Known limit: every coverage span quoted is an UPPER bound, because a stale timestamp can only make a window look wider than it really is — so the true picture can be worse than stated and never better. Known limit, second: coverage is measured by modelling how long a source's window is against how often it is read. That model can only tell you loss is POSSIBLE. Actual loss is observed by comparing consecutive readings, and that comparison is blind for any interval whose baseline is missing. Known limit, third: the modelled losses on the fastest trade feeds have been independently confirmed by the loss detector on more than one occasion, so the model's warning about those feeds is corroborated by observation rather than merely predicted. Whether any GIVEN issue lost anything is not stated here — it is read off the gap log for that issue, because a standing note cannot describe a particular day without being wrong on all the others. A four-hourly read is not sufficient for a feed whose entire visible window is under four hours.
How often an issue is published (hours)
24
One issue a day. Known limit: reading and publishing are different clocks and only the reading one determines what gets missed. This desk stated the wrong one of the two in public and corrected it, and then shipped an issue whose numbers used the right clock while its sentences still named the wrong one. Both are now derived from the scheduler so the prose cannot drift from the arithmetic again.

Provenance

HOW TO READ THIS BOARD. Every source is checked twice before publication: once that the link actually resolves, and once that the KIND of source claimed matches the publication it really came from. The second check is automatic, decided in one central list rather than story by story, and it refuses to publish the issue if a source has been overstated or a publication cited that the list has never seen.

WHAT THAT CHECK DOES NOT DO: it does not make provenance verified. It moves the claim from this desk's judgement on each story to one reviewable list that is able to disagree. That is a smaller thing than 'verified' and it is better to say so than to let the word do work it has not earned.

AND THE CHECK'S OWN RECORD, since it is the thing asking you to trust the rest: it was announced as working on 15 August and it was not. It had run once, in a temporary workspace, and vanished with it — while this very note told readers for five days that it guarded every issue. It was rebuilt on 20 August and has refused to publish on several separate occasions since, which is the only evidence worth offering that it does anything.

AND THE LIST IS EXTENDED WHENEVER A NEW PUBLICATION IS CITED, which matters because an extendable list is only as strong as the discipline of extending it. Every addition is dated in the list itself, so its growth is inspectable rather than invisible. The standing rule that does the work: a story can be no stronger than its WEAKEST source, so citing a primary document alongside a weak one does not lift the story — it exposes the weak one. Which publications were added in any given issue, and which stories that forced to be retyped, is recorded in that issue's coverage note rather than here, because this passage is carried between issues and a count of additions would be false the moment it was reread.

Held over, not dropped quietly5 STORIES

This board drops rather than downgrades. Today's second drop is the discipline in miniature: two numbers that would have made the lead punchier, held back because no page this desk opened carried them.

  1. The Presidents Cup comebackOFF THE BEAT. A strong weekend story, but sport is not one of this board's verticals.
  2. Superlatives from search summariesNOT PRINTED. 'Largest final-day comeback' and a count of Madonna's total awards appeared only in search summaries, never on a page this desk opened.
  3. Why the Endgame re-release happenedNOT AVAILABLE. The chart gives the figures, not the reason or the terms; the trade report is behind a gated copy.
  4. Dated calls on a legacy creator-revenue programme and a prediction-market geofenceSTILL UNSCORED. No evidence found either way at source.
  5. Real-time social-feed signal, thirty-fourth consecutive dayUpstream feed unavailable again. Stated rather than absorbed.

The spatial read

Some stories are carried by the building they happen in. Where the built environment IS the story — or gives it away — this board reads it: what the place is actually for, whether it belongs where it stands, and what it is quietly becoming.

A spatial read requires a REAL, DATED, SOURCED place — a specific building, development, lease or closure. Spatial intelligence, not spatial atmosphere. If it cannot be sourced to a place that exists, it does not run.

A reading applied ACROSS the three lenses, never a fourth door in the nav.

🔴 EIGHTY-SIX STALE SENTENCES ACROSS ELEVEN ISSUES. A signal written on 8 September said 'IN THREE DAYS' about an 11 September deadline and was carried unchanged into the 9 September issue, where the answer was two. A sweep of all 64 issues then found 86 rotted relative-time phrases across 11 of 63 transitions and 27 distinct signals — one entry said 'yesterday' for four consecutive days. Every gate passed all of them correctly: nothing was false or self-contradictory, the sentences were merely OLD, and no instrument here was looking for age. A freshness gate now compares each issue against the previous one, refuses carried prose dated to a day that has passed, and runs inside the publishing step so it cannot be skipped. Verified by pointing it at the 9 September issue, which it refuses.

🔴 THE REACTOR PATTERN WAS UNDERCOUNTED. On 10 September this board said two existing-reactor compute contracts in two days were not yet a trend and to watch for a third. Two earlier agreements of the identical shape existed — the Clinton plant in Illinois (3 June 2025) and operating plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania (9 January 2026). The pattern was counted from this board's own coverage instead of from the record. The entry is rewritten and the claim withdrawn.

🔴 A STALE STATE CLAIM RAN FOR TWO ISSUES. On 9 and 10 September the transfer-agent entry said Federal Register publication had not been confirmed, so no comment deadline was given. It had been published on 4 September. The staleness check added on 10 September catches relative time and could not see this, because the sentence contained no time word. Carried prose was swept by hand for state claims in this issue; the deadline — 3 November 2026 — is now stated.

🔴 A PRIZE INSTITUTE'S STATEMENT WAS REPORTED AS ABSENT. On 11 September the Navier–Stokes entry said no statement from the Clay Mathematics Institute on the claim had been found. Its president, Martin Bridson, had told a news agency on 9 September that evaluation would be "deliberately unhurried" and "absolutely rigorous". The sentence was wrong when printed. It is replaced with his words, and the entry states that they describe a process, not a ruling.

🔴 A SECOND MAJOR LABEL HAD ALREADY SIGNED. From 27 August this board said no second major label had followed Universal in licensing fan creation with AI, filed a dated call on it, and on 12 September wrote that the reports read named no other major label doing the same. Warner Music Group signed a licensed agreement with Suno on 25 November 2025 letting users create and remix music from opted-in artists; the licensed models launched on 9 September 2026. The claim was false when printed. The call is scored missed as void on filing, and the entry is corrected.

What is behind each door

WHAT IS BEHIND EACH DOOR. A signal count on its own is ambiguous in the worst direction: a lens showing two stories reads as though nobody looked. So every lens carries the state of the instruments behind it. COVERED means the four-hourly read sees that source's whole window before anything can roll out of it. LOSSY means the window is shorter than the gap between reads, so items provably publish and disappear unseen. SAMPLED means the read catches only a minority of what publishes, and a sampled source is never described as coverage.

READING IS SEPARATE FROM PUBLISHING. Sources are read every four hours; the issue is written once a day. Those are different clocks and only the reading one determines what gets missed — a distinction this desk got wrong in public and corrected, which is recorded above.

Every span measured is an UPPER bound: a stale timestamp can only make a window look wider than it is. So the true picture can be worse than stated and never better.

Imagery

NO PHOTOGRAPHS IN THIS ISSUE, DELIBERATELY. Imagery was built and tested for this design — each picture the lead photograph published by the same article the story cites, credited to that publisher — and it is held back until the rights to reproduce it are secured. A publication that asks readers to check its sources should not run photographs it has no licence for. The pictures return when the licensing does, and not before.
